Women participated in the third nationwide protests by social security pensioners and retirees on Sunday, April 11, 2021.
It is very difficult for pensioners and retirees to provide for the basic needs of their families when their monthly salaries are only 2.8 million Tomans compared to the 10-million-Toman poverty line.
The third nationwide protests by pensioners and retirees were held in 27 cities, in 20 provinces.
In Tehran, protesters gathered outside the mullahs’ parliament. In other cities, they gathered outside the local Social Security Department.
The State Security forces lined up in front of the protesters and prevented other people from joining them. They also assailed anyone who filmed the protests.
In Tehran, security forces arrested one of the participating women who was filming the protest. Widespread protest to her arrest led the security forces to let her free.
Protesters in Tehran marched from the parliament to the Budget and Planning Organization chanting, “We will not relent until we gain our rights.”
In Tabriz, the retirees spread an empty tablecloth symbolizing their dire economic conditions. They also held a sit-in in the Social Security building.
In most cities, the pensioners and retirees chanted “We will not vote, since all we have heard were lies.”
The third nationwide protest by pensioners and retirees were held in Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Shiraz, Ahvaz, Karaj, Tabriz, Rasht, Kermanshah, Arak, Qazvin, Zanjan, Ardabil, Khorramabad, Kerman, Ilam, Bojnourd, Sanandaj, Urmia, Shahroud, Sari, Neyshabour, Noshahr, Behshahr, Shush, Shushtar, and Dezful.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) said the nationwide protests by the dignified retirees reflect “the cries of protests by all Iranians to obtain their pillaged rights” by the mullahs’ regime. The clerical regime has been squandering the national wealth and the fruit of workers’ labor through plunder, warmongering, nuclear and missile programs, and domestic suppression.
Mrs. Rajavi urged all Iranians, especially the brave youths, to show solidarity for and support the retirees’ rightful demands.
