A civil activist was arrested by agents of the Department of Intelligence in Dehgolan, in the Iranian Kurdistan Province. Farideh Veissi was arrested on January 14, 2020 and transferred to Sanandaj. Farideh Veissi and her husband, Sirous Abbasi, were arrested in a raid on an educational center.
Mojgan Kavousi was banned from leaving the country
In another development, Mojgan Kavousi, Kurdish writer and researcher, in a post on her Instagram account wrote, “In the final days of December, and some ten days after I was released on bail (on December 19, 2019), I asked to read my case in the Revolutionary Court of Nowshahr when I suddenly and surprisingly ran into the verdict banning me from leaving the country. The verdict had been issued months ago, but I did not know of it and no one had informed me of this order.”
Mojgan Kavousi has been banned from leaving the country. The ban was issued on September 13, 2019, but she has not been informed of the verdict, yet. The Court of Nowshahr sentenced Mojgan Kavousi to 69 months in prison in December.
Civil activist Saeedeh Ghorbani sentenced to 3 years in prison
In another news, civil activist Saeedeh Ghorbani was sentenced to 3 years in jail by the Revolutionary Court of Tehran. Ms. Ghorbani resides in Shahriar. According to an indictment which she has received on December 25, 2019, she has been sentenced for propaganda against the state and insulting the leader, Ali Khamenei.
Ms. Ghorbani was arrested at her residence in Shahriar on June 4, 2019. Security forces brutalized her at the time of arrest. They ransacked her house and confiscated many of her personal belongings. They did not even allow her to ask her neighbor to inform her daughter of her arrest. She was blindfolded and handcuffed and transferred to detention center.
