On Wednesday, July 10, 2019, Ms. Raheleh Ahmadi was arrested at her home by agents and transferred to Qarchak Prison.
Raheleh Ahmadi was arrested on charges of “propaganda against the regime”, “cooperating with opposing media” and “encouraging and provoking corruption and prostitution” on Thursday, July 11, 2019. She was taken to an unknown location after being transferred to the quarantine of Qarchak prison in Varamin.
Ms. Raheleh Ahmadi is the mother of civil activist Saba Kord Afshari who had been arrested 40 days ago on June 1, 2019 and is detained in the quarantine section of the Qarchak prison in Varamin. On July 2, 2019, she was again transferred from the Qarchak prison in Varamin to an unknown location.
The arrest of Ms. Raheleh Ahmadi was aimed at pressuring her daughter Saba Kord Afshari because she has refused to do video confessions in recent weeks. According to some sources, Ms. Ahmadi has been told that she will only be released when her daughter confesses in front of the camera.
Saba Kord Afshari was arrested during the protests in Tehran in early August 2018 and was transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin.
Two months after being detained she was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison and was sentenced to one year in prison for “disrupting public order”. She had been released from Evin Prison just recently in February 2019 but was rearrested on Saturday, June 1, 2019.
In another case, an informed source revealed how former political prisoner, Fatemeh Mohammadi was arrested on July 9, 2019, saying she was sitting in a bus when a woman in chador disrespectfully and threateningly told her to put on her head scarf. She did not stop and began shouting and approaching Fatemeh. She put her hand on Fatemeh’s chest and scratched her face. The bus driver stopped in front of the police station, where Fatemeh Mohammadi managed to take the harassing woman named Mousavi to the police station. Despite the complaint filed by Fatemeh Mohammadi, Ms. Mousavi left the police station a few hours later, but Fatemeh was held at the detention center until 3 am and eventually released on bail on July 10.
