“Today, many of the country’s educated girls are prepared to take on jobs and engage in occupation, but it seems that due to lack of job opportunities, their only option is to continue their education.”
This was announced by the presidential deputy on Women and Family Affairs, Shahindokht Molaverdi, at a gatheing of women in Western Azerbaijan province on November 6.
Molaverdi added, “The problems of rural girls are twice as much… Villages are evacuated by men and boys who have emigrated to cities and so rural girls face the problem of not being able to get married… Most of rural girls are often educated…”
As for the extent of depression among girls, she said: “Today we see that girls are depressed for various reasons, the most important reason being unemployment which drives girls towards drugs… The average age for drug consumption has dropped to 13 and most addicts use industrial amphetamines, a situation that is very alarming for our country’s women.”
