A labor rights expert called the weakness of supervision by inspectors of the Labor Ministry in the industrial and manufacturing units as the reason for a lack of implementation of labor rights, particularly regarding female workers. He said, “The lack of supervision to implement women employment laws has led to discrimination against women and ignoring supportive laws by employers.”
Sohrab Qanbari said, “Despite legal prohibition, we witness women being recruited in hard technical jobs and in night shifts in factories, production and industrial sites. Pregnancy and birth has become a major reason for women’s unemployment. The labor law has taken into consideration 6 months of pregnancy leave for women, but many women workers lose their jobs after delivering their children yet according to the law, the employers must keep female workers in their jobs or at a similar level until her contract is terminated”.
