Past Initiatives

In recent years, alongside its ongoing activities, the Women’s Committee has organized special campaigns to support Iranian women during critical and defining moments. These campaigns were established with the aims of garnering international support, raising public awareness, and bringing the voice of Iranian women to the attention of the global community.

Campaign to Secure the Release of Political Prisoners

After years of campaigning to secure the release of Maryam Akbari Monfared, she was finally released on April 8, 2026. A mother of three girls, she was arrested and imprisoned in Tehran in the course of protests in December 2009.

She was incarcerated because she sought justice for four of her siblings executed in cold blood by the clerical regime in the 1980s. Her sister, Roghiyeh Akbari Monfared, had a little daughter when she was sent to the gallows among the prisoners massacred in the summer of 1988.

As a result of long years of imprisonment, Maryam suffered various illnesses to the point where she was nearly disabled. Thanks to our campaigns for her release, she is finally back home with her family and undergoing medical treatment previously denied to her.

Supporting the Women at the Forefront of the Iran Protests (2022)

Iranian women played a leading and decisive role in the 2022 nationwide protests. They were not only on the front lines of the protests but also took on an effective role in organizing and leading the protest movements. The price of this resistance was heavy. Dozens of women and young girls lost their lives during the crackdown on the protests, and thousands of others faced arrest, threats, and various forms of pressure. This campaign was established with the aims of garnering global support for Iranian women protesters, amplifying their voices, and raising awareness within the international community regarding their situation.

Supporting the Protesters of the Iran Protests (2019)

Thousands of Iranian women took to the streets during the 2019 protests to demand freedom, justice, and equality, standing resilient against the crackdown. Many of them faced arrest, violence, and various forms of deprivation. This campaign was launched to bring the protesters’ voices to the global community, draw the attention of international organizations, and support Iranian women fighting for their fundamental rights; it remains one of the most significant examples of our ongoing efforts to support the women of Iran.

“Angels of Iran” Support Campaign

Iranian nurses, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, continued to serve under the most difficult conditions. Many of them faced shortages of equipment, heavy workloads, delayed salary payments, and poor working conditions. This campaign was established with the aims of drawing the attention of public opinion and the international community to the situation of Iranian nurses, as well as honoring their vital role in preserving public health. It sought to ensure that the voices of this dedicated workforce were heard by the world.
