Bus Crash in Semnan Kills Two Female Medical Students, Sparks Protests

In the early hours of Tuesday, September 30, 2025, a tragic bus crash involving students from the Paramedical Faculty of Sorkheh along the Semnan–Sorkheh road claimed the lives of two female medical students and left eleven others injured.

The bus, carrying 13 students and a driver, veered off the road at approximately 7:40 a.m. after colliding with a truck. Two female medical students, Narges Fathinejad and Zeinab Shaani, were killed instantly, while 11 others sustained serious injuries, including Fatemeh Shirazi, who remains in intensive care.

The fatal bus crash has ignited a wave of outrage and protest among students at Semnan University of Medical Sciences.

Gathering in large numbers outside Semnan University’s central administration building, demonstrators chanted slogans such as “The university president must resign,” “The student affairs office must be prosecuted,” and “Student deaths are our red line.” Protesters vowed that the blood of the two victims, “must never be forgotten or ignored.”

The atmosphere at Semnan University of Medical Sciences has since been marked by grief and anger. Families and eyewitnesses have shared harrowing accounts of the incident. The sister of Fatemeh Shirazi, speaking through tears, said:
“Tonight was Fatemeh’s birthday. She already had her ticket to return home… Why was a driver with such a record entrusted with the lives of students?”

The incident underscores systemic negligence toward the lives of young people under the clerical regime.
