Liudmyla Mykhailivna Pavlychenko
Liudmyla Mykhailivna Pavlychenko (July 12, 1916 – October 10, 1974) Born in Bila Tserkva, she moved to Kiev with her family at the age of fourteen.
There she joined a shooting club and developed into an amateur sharpshooter, while working as a grinder at the Kiev Arsenal factory. In 1937, as a student of Kiev University she completed a master’s degree in history. In 1943, she was awarded the Gold Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union, and was commemorated on a Soviet postage stamp.
She was a Red Army Ukrainian Soviet sniper during World War.
Credited with 309 kills, she is regarded as one of the top military snipers of all time and the most successful female sniper in history.
After war, she was a research assistant of the Chief HQ of the Soviet Navy.
Pavlichenko died on October 10, 1974 at age 58, and was buried in the Novodevichye Cemetery in Moscow.
